Just a quick roundup on some news in the world of food:
- You will have heard already that McDonalds has created an ‘artisan’ burger called Mac Mór which uses Ballymaloe Relish and Charleville Cheese. The FSAI has clearly defined the meaning of the word ARTISAN and obviously McDonalds in in breach of this definition. FSAI has already been in touch with McDonalds and advised to remove the use of the word.
- And talking about Fast Food – according to Bord Bia the fast food industry is the fastest growing arm of the food industry with a worth of £9billion for the UK alone. Here in Cork we are lucky to have ‘proper’ fast food with the rise of The Rocket Man and Loving Salads as well as My Goodness at the markets.
- According to the Irish Independent, we spend more than €1,300 per year on shop bought lunches (this is where fast food might come in) as we are too busy these days to prepare our lunch at home. If you are one of them, make sure it is a good lunch.
- The Great Irish Bake Off will return soon and Lilly Higgins is taking over from Biddy White Lennon. So far, in my eyes anyway, the Irish version of the successful UK show has lacked a bit finesse. Lilly is a great addition to the lineup and I am sure to watch it again.
