When Kate of Fenn’s Quay asked me to come up with an idea for an event at Fenn’s Quay, I thought straight away of a food quiz – a fun way of learning about food, winning some great prizes and trying wonderful food. She loved the idea and we were extremely luck having a great sponsor in Paul Axford of Planet Health in Blackpool who sponsored fantastic prizes for us.
Kate also stood up to the task and produced some great fingerfood – spiced beef with fig chutney, risotto balls with smoked sundried tomatoes (which you can buy from Hedermans at Midleton Market) and a shot of gazpacho, white pudding with bacon & red onion marmalade and strawberry trifle and beetroot & orange blossom meringue – nothing was left behind. I took a portion of the risotto balls at the end of the night and although I don’t like smoked food (apart from Sally Barnes’ amazing smoked mackerel) but these balls went down a treat – so much that I went to Midleton the next day and got some of the smoked sundried tomatoes – will have to try to re-create the dish 🙂
I always say, no matter how good I am prepared, or how interesting the event is – without the right people, there is no atmosphere – so let me tell you that there was a great atmosphere on Friday night. So a great thank you to all involved to make this a fun night. Geraldine, Gayle (hope you have a save journey home), Victoria, Kay, Brid, Wiveka, Imelda and last but not least – Paul…. the bravest man alive to stood his ground with all the crazy women around. Thank you to all of you who came out to make this night special.
Questions were a mix of easy and more difficult and I was amazed about the food knowledge of each one. Brid was the overall winner and won the dinner for 2 in Fenn’s Quay. Close second was Wiveka who won the 12 month membership in Planet Health. Victoria got joined third and won 6 month membership, while Gayle won the 3 month membership – which she handed over to Kay due her living in US and only here for a visit. Paul – as the bravest man alive – won the hamper filled with goodies like homemade chutneys, a bunting (I am mad into making these at the moment) and a book. I think he deserved it – although he said he enjoyed himself immensely.
A big thank you also to the staff in Fenn’s Quay – especially our waiter Cian who made the most amazing cocktails. In case you are planning a girlie night – why not go to Fenn’s Quay for a cocktail night – just make sure Cian is there
