A few weeks ago, I went to visit the Cork Sugarcraft Show in the Radisson in Little Island. The charming Sara de Miguel Hernandez was also there in her capacity as sales agent for Thermomix. Most professional chefs will have a Thermomix in their kitchen but I have yet to be persuaded to buy one but we watched a demonstration using the Thermomix to make lemonade.
All recipes are in the ‘onboard’ computer of the machine and it tells you what to use, measures it and then simply makes it. The demonstration chef just cut lemons in half, added sugar, blitzed it and added water. The result was the freshest tasting lemonade you will ever try. But I thought, you don’t need a Thermomix for that, I can do that in my food processor.
Normally, when making lemonade at home, I would squeeze the lemons, make a sugar syrup, leave it to cool and top with water. Here, this lemonade doesn’t require any cooking and the taste is so much better. I served this lemonade at a recent party we had at The Cottage and I got great reviews from two boys (aged 4 and 7) – high praise indeed I thought.
Hot Tip: Blitz the lemons and sugar first before adding the water – it won’t work otherwise (at least not in my Kenwood).
Fresh Lemonade
- Lemons
- Caster sugar (100g per lemon)
- Water (100ml per lemon – more to top up later)
Cut the lemons into 8 pieces (it still works if you cut it into 7
Now add the water (be careful not to overfill the bowl of the food processor as the water will spill over) and blitz again.
Sieve the lemon mix into a jug, top up with more water (also tasty with sparkling water) and enjoy.
Note: you could also add some mint leaves to the lemon mix, giving you a slight different note to the lemonade. I also added it to gin which was very tasty indeed.
