It is no secret that Fenn’s Quay is serving great food based on local produce but did you know that you can eat Cork on a Fork? Kate and her team created a wonderful menu focusing on local produce – who wouldn’t love the famous Cork Spiced Beef served with beetroot relish or soused local mackerel with celeriac and radish remoulade as starter. Main courses include Beef & Murphy’s stout pie topped with smoked Gubbeen cheese mash potato and braised Irish lamb shank with Green Saffron spiced potatoes and if this isn’t enough you can finish with wonderful desserts like The Cork dry Gin & tonic dessert and Baldwin’s vanilla ice cream with cookies & Ó Connaill chocolate sauce.
When I was there last time I tried the Spiced Potato & Cauliflower Springroll with minty joghurt as starter and Puy Lentil & Ardsallagh Cheese Burger with beetroot caviar as my main. Both dishes were excellent executed and combined flavours wonderfully. The springroll was crisp on the outside and nicely filled with a great texture. The minty joghurt was a great partner to the spices in the filling.

The Puy lentil & goats cheese burger was a relevation. Puy lentils in a burger or vegetarian roast can be very dry and boring but Fenn’s Quay was able to create a wonderful marriage of lentils and cheese. The beetroot caviar was a fresh third wheel which took the dish to a different level.
I was running out of time so I had to skip dessert but will go back to try the G&T; dessert.

Apart from eating fabulous food – you will learn a bit ‘Corcaigh’ as common sayings are translated on the menu so you’ll have the excuse of an ‘educational dinner’.
